How to Pay Your Rates

There are several ways you can pay your rates. Choose the method that works best for you: online, through your bank, in person, or by setting up a Direct Debit.

Online (Credit Card)

Pay online using Visa, Mastercard or American Express.

  • Have your Property Number ready (top right of your Rate Notice)
  • Enter numbers only (no letters, dashes or spaces).

Pay rates online

BPAY

Pay directly from your online bank account.

  • Log in to your bank
  • Select BPAY
  • Biller ID: 16212
  • Payment reference number (11 digit number found on your Rate Notice).

Direct Debit (SmartRates only)

Direct Debit is available if you are registered for SmartRates. You can make paypents weekly, fortnightly or monthly (every four weeks).

Payments are automatically deducted on your chosen schedule.

Centrepay (pay through Centrepay deductions)

Centrepay is a voluntary bill paying service which is free for Centrelink customers.

Use Centrepay to arrange regular deductions from your Centrelink payment. You can start or change a deduction at any time.

The easiest and fastest way to apply is through your Centrelink account via myGov.

You will need the following details to set up the Centrepay deduction:

  • Centrepay Reference Number: 555025770X
  • Your Account Number: R(Property Number) located on your Rate Notice

Australia Post

Pay at any Australia Post outlet with your current year’s Rate Notice.

In Person

Visit the City of Cockburn office:
9 Coleville Crescent, Spearwood (view on Google Maps)
Open 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday

Bring your Rate Notice. Payments can be made by credit card or EFTPOS.

Frequently asked questions

When will I receive my rates notice?
Rates notices are usually sent in July each year. If you have not received yours, contact the City on 08 9411 3444 or email [email protected]
What if I can’t make a payment?
If you are having trouble paying your rates, contact the City as soon as possible.

We can set up a flexible payment arrangement such as SmartRates or instalments.

You will not be charged interest or penalties on approved arrangements. More support is available through our Financial Hardship Assistance page.
What happens if I make a payment after the due date?
If you have set up an approved arrangement, you will not be charged interest or penalties if you make the payments on schedule.

If you have not set up an arrangement and you miss a due date, late payment fees may apply.
Can someone else pay my rates for me?
Yes. Anyone can make a payment on your behalf if they have your Property Number or Payment Reference Number from your Rate Notice.
What if I have lost my rates notice?
Contact the City’s Rates team and we can provide your Property Number so you can make a payment.
What payment methods are not accepted?
The City does not accept personal cheques or cash payments sent by mail.
