Social Media Posting Guidelines

The City of Cockburn has various social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube as a way to communicate widely with our residents and community.

The City endeavours to post information which the community will find useful, and we welcome your comments, opinions and feedback.
We do, however, need to advise our fans of a few rules and regulations which we enforce on all our social media, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.

Any posts or comments made on our page can at any time be removed or hidden, and a user banned without notice. The removal of posts or comments and banning users is at the discretion of the City of Cockburn and the administrators of our page. While we do encourage open and transparent dialogue, the City of Cockburn will act immediately to protect the privacy and rights of any individual or group of individuals. Any comments which specifically identify or otherwise refer to individual people in a negative manner will be instantly removed.

The City of Cockburn and our page administrators reserve the right to remove any post which:
  • Is illegal, encourages illegal activities and/or invites others to commit illegal activities; this includes copyright law
  • Refers to, encourages or promotes the use of alcohol or illegal drugs
  • Contains racist, defamatory, abusive, aggressive, habitual, obsessive or inappropriate comments. This includes comments which are sexually explicit, contain profanity or describe graphic or violent events
  • Acts only to advertise or promote a commercial organisation
  • Discusses Local Government elections and/or candidates.
The City does not remove comments or posts that are negative about the City, however people who continually post negative comments that add no value, or post comments about the topics on unrelated posts will be banned from the City’s page. We find that these people tend to deter other people from interacting.

The City of Cockburn is not directly affiliated with any advertisement or post that may appear on our page unless we state otherwise or unless it comes  directly from the City of Cockburn. We neither endorse nor sponsor the adverts that may appear while viewing our page.

The City of Cockburn and our page administrators may at any time, without justification, remove or hide comments and ban a user who violates these guidelines.

Representatives of the City of Cockburn communicate via this website. Therefore any communication via this site by a government employee or by the public may be subject to monitoring and disclosure to third parties.

To discuss the removal of a previous post, request a current post be removed or for any other matters related to these guidelines please contact the City of Cockburn's Communications Department on 9411 3444 or email media@cockburn.wa.gov.au

N.B. All responses are made during normal working hours and we ask that the Community keep this in mind when asking for help or submitting questions. Public Holidays should also be taken into account for the above when submitting queries.
