Powerline street tree pruning underway

The City is carrying out powerline street tree pruning across Cockburn to help keep trees clear of power infrastructure and improve public safety.

Throughout November, works will be underway in Spearwood, Bibra Lake and Jandakot.

Trees growing beneath powerlines need to meet Western Power clearance requirements. This helps reduce the risk of power outages, storm damage and safety hazards.

You may notice some trees are being pruned more extensively than in previous years.

Depending on the location and the tree, pruning may include:

  • clearing branches away from powerlines
  • reducing branches extending over property boundaries
  • lifting tree canopies to provide clearance over footpaths and driveways and improve sightlines.
The City remains committed to growing Cockburn's urban forest while balancing tree health with public safety and powerline clearance requirements.

Works are being undertaken by qualified contractors in accordance with Australian tree-pruning standards.

Thank you for your patience while this work is underway.
