The City of Cockburn is conducting a review of its wards and representation in accordance with Schedule 2.2 of the Local Government Act 1995 and invites public comment.
Ward boundaries and the number of offices of Councillor for each ward will be reviewed against the following factors:
- Community of interest
- Physical and topographic features
- Demographic trends
- Economic factors
- Ratio of Councillors to electors in the various wards.
Using elector data and projected population trends, the City has developed the following options for community consideration, with further details available in the discussion paper:
- Maintain the current three ward system with no changes
- Three ward option with Jandakot moving to the Central Ward
- Two ward option with an equal number of Councillors in each ward
- Two ward option with an unequal number of Councillors in each ward
- Four ward option with an unequal number of Councillors in each ward
- Six ward option with an equal number of Councillors in each ward
- No wards with all Councillors representing all electors.
A copy of the discussion paper can be viewed and/or downloaded from the Comment on Cockburn website. Hard copies are also available for viewing at the City of Cockburn Administration Centre and at all City of Cockburn libraries during opening hours.
We invite feedback from the community on the ward boundary and representation review and options presented in the discussion paper.
Council can consider alternatives beyond those outlined in the discussion paper, including ideas put forward by the community. Any suggested options will need to take into account the five key factors listed above. Council also want to hear from the community on the number of Councillors, as well as ward names.
