Champion Clubs

About Champion Clubs

Champion Clubs is a Club Development initiative created by the City of Cockburn and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC). The program is designed to empower clubs to become self-sustainable entities; aiming to create healthy, welcoming, and inclusive sporting environments to increase participation and community belonging. The health benefits of participating in sport has been well documented and sporting clubs play a major role in contributing to the overall social, physical and mental health of their surrounding local communities. Volunteers are the driving force behind ensuring your sporting club plays their part.

The Champion Clubs program aims to:

  • Improve self-management of clubs through training

  • Provide club support and networking opportunities

  • Strengthen relationships between the City and clubs

  • Assist in club sustainability

  • Provide clubs with grants and funding opportunities

The key focus areas of the club are:

  1. Education and facilitation - self-management seminars and workshops

  2. Communication - access to newsletters, flyers, calendar of events and email networks

  3. Funding - opportunities including Junior Sports Travel Assistance Program, Healthy Canteens Incentive, Sporting Equipment Grant, Minor Capital Works Grant, Major Capital Works Program.
