About the event

Did you know that one third of all food produced is lost or wasted? Food waste costs Australian households $2,000-$2.500 per year!

If you are keen to find new waste to reduce food waste at home, join us on Saturday 18 May 2024 for our “Preserving The Harvest” workshop with Shani from Ecoburbia.

Ecoburbia aims to create more sustainable, connected, and resilient community.

This session will cover tomato and fruit preserving using the water bath method, cheese making, drying produce using the sun, plus pickles, olive preserving, cordial and jam making.

You will leave with a great basic recipe list. Something is sure to inspire you to try some preserving yourself.

We cant wait to support your journey toward preserving and reducing food waste!

Sustainability is a key strategic value for the city of Cockburn. The city has identified the following vision statement to ensure sustainability of its waste management services: "To lead and support a community that avoids waste generation, reduces environmental impacts and consider the waste that is produced as a valuable resource to be recovered, reused and recycled."
In line with the City's and WA State Government Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy, the City of Cockburn’s priority is to AVOID generating waste. Recovery, reprocessing and recycling come next when waste is unavoidable. Disposal of waste to landfill being the least favourable option.
