How to pay your rates

Due dates for payment

Annual rate payments are due on 27 August 2021.

Rates can be paid in one single payment by the 27 August 2021, or you can pay by four instalments on the following dates:

  • Instalment 1 - due 27 August 2021
  • Instalment 2 - due 29 October 2021
  • Instalment 3 - due 7 January 2022
  • Instalment 4 - due 11 March 2022

Important note: The first instalment (inclusive of any arrears) must be paid by the date specified on your Rate Notice, otherwise this option is not available and rates must be paid in full.  

Receive your rates by email (eRates)

Sign up to eRates and recieve your rates by email:

  • Less paper
  • Less manual filing
  • No more lost of forgotten notices!

Once you have registered you will receive a verification email as part of the registration process. Please note that you will also receive your six trailer passes on the electronic Rate Notice.

Things to be aware of before applying

  • There can only be ONE email address for each notice.
  • If there is more than one owner of the property and both owners apply to receive the electronic notice, the default will send the email to the email address of the last person who registered.
  • The registration process will automatically close fourteen (14) days prior to the issue date of any rate notice.
  • If the registration has not been received in time for when the next notice is issued, you will automatically receive your rate notice by post.

How to pay your rates

There are various ways you can pay your rates. Please select from the following options:


Pay rates online opens in a new window with a valid credit card (Visa or Mastercard) via our SecurePay hosted secure payment gateway.

Please enter numbers only for your Property Number - no letters, dashes or spaces.

To find your Property Number, look for the Property Number found on the top right hand side of your Rate Notice.


You can pay your rates via BPay through your financial institution. Credit card payments are accepted.

Please quote Biller ID: 16212 and your Reference Number which you can find on your Rate Notice.

Direct debit

You can pay your rates automatically from a nominated bank account (savings and cheque accounts only). Credit card payments are not accepted. Payments are deducted on Friday's only.

Present your Rate Notice to the cashier at the Council Administration Office.  Payments by credit card or EFTPOS accepted.

Centrepay deductions

Centrepay is a free bill paying service for Centrelink customers. Please contact Centrelink on 13 23 00 or visit their office and provide them with the City of Cockburn Service Provider's Centrepay Reference Number and your Account Number.

  • Your Account Number (Property Number) - you will find the Property Number on your Rate Notice.

Australia Post

Any Australia Post outlet opens in a new window will accept your payment. Please take your Rate Notice with you. Credit card payments are not accepted.

SmartRates - a more manageable, easier way of paying

SmartRates makes it easier for households to manage their rate payments throughout the year by allowing you to pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly (4 weekly), ensuring your rates are paid before the end of each financial year.
  • Smaller, more regular and manageable payments
  • Weekly, fortnightly or monthly (4 weekly) payments
  • Never forget due dates with continuous direct debit.
You have the option to spread your payment over 22, 43 or 11 payments in the 2021-2022 financial year. SmartRates uses direct debit which continues year after year, meaning you don't have to remember to pay by a certain time - it's that easy! Note that the option cost is a ‘total cost’ option and is not charged on each instalment.

Application form 

SmartRates Direct Debit Application Forms must be submitted by 25 August 2021 in time for payments to commence on 27 August 2021. Forms received after 25 August 2021 will not be accepted and you will need to contact Rates Services to discuss an alternative payment arrangement.
