Reviews from past attendees
“I lost 8kg, 12cm off my hips and 9cm off my waist, all because I was learning how to exercise and eat smarter.” – Ruena, Spearwood
‘I’m feeling fantastic! Tom and his team have been super professional, welcoming and I have felt comfortable and at ease from the moment I walked in. I have thoroughly enjoyed the program and I just wanted to extend a big heartfelt thank you to you (CHLP), for putting me in touch with this service. I have lost a further 4kg since starting the ARC program and have become stronger, fitter and more positive! I have gained so much knowledge and confidence in exercise and I’m looking forward to continuing on this path!” – Tatiana, Cockburn
“I loved the HEAL classes. The exercise was terrific and the classes were very informative.” – Maureen, Cockburn
Regular physical activity is essential for maintaining good health. Regular physical activity reduces your risk of many lifestyle diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and many different forms of cancer. It also helps to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
There are many physical, mental, social and environmental benefits of physical activity. The benefits include a reduced risk of breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men; a reduction in stress, anxiety and depression. It also helps us build safer communities and improve family and community ties to the City of Cockburn, As an added bonus it can also help to reduce greenhouse emissions through active transport. To view a list of the benefits of regular physical activity please visit Be Active WA at Be Active WA - Benefits of Physical Activity.
One way to get more exercise into your day is by walking. Walking is a great way for people of all ages and abilities to be physically active. Children, adults and seniors can all get involved in walking which is an enjoyable, low impact activity. A simple brisk walk for at least 30 minutes on most days can have significant health benefits. While walking is a fantastic way to be active, it is sometimes hard to know where to start. To help you to become familiar with different walking routes in your area, Be Active Cockburn has produced Walking in the City of Cockburn a handy pocket-sized walking booklet. The booklet contains 18 walking routes in most Cockburn suburbs. A printed copy of the booklet is available at all City of Cockburn libraries.
Heart Foundation Walking is Australia's largest network of free community based walking groups coordinated locally by City of Cockburn and City of Fremantle. Heart Foundation Walking makes regular physical activity enjoyable and easy. Walking groups are many sizes and walk at various times, distances, days and levels of difficulty. Contact your local coordinator if you are interested in participating by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Visit the Heart Foundation Walking webpage for more information. If you do not live near a group or prefer to walk on your own, you can join as a ‘Virtual Walker’ and track your progress online.
