Healthy Eating Programs

Foodbank W.A. now run nom!® programs!

How do nom! programs work?

Foodbank W.A. nom!® programs aims to improve knowledge, attitudes and skills around nutritious foods. Each session provides:

  • One hour of learning on a particular subject
  • Group cooking session
  • Shared meal.

Healthy Cockburn currently hosts two nom! programs:

nom! Children

The nom! Children program is open to parents, grandparents and carers of children 0-5 years old. A free creche is provided for children but they are encouraged to join the group for the shared meal.
Note: Parents / carers are expected to attend all sessions. (illness excepted)

The program runs for five (5) weeks and covers a range of topics including:

  • Amounts, textures and types of food for each childhood development stage
  • Tools and tips to make mealtimes joyful
  • Healthy eating for the whole family
  • Healthy snack and lunchbox ideas.

Note: nom! Children is also offered online through zoom. Go to the Food Bank WA website for details on how to register.

Healthy Food for All Abilities

A four week nutrition education and cooking program for people with disability and support workers. Learn about nutrition and how to plan, select and cook healthy meals.

Over four weeks learn important skills including:

  • How to choose healthy foods
  • Amount and types of foods to eat each day for health and wellbeing
  • How to cook and prepare easy, healthy and tasty meals

During each 2.5 hour session, you will get to know other participants in the program and learn about healthy eating through fun and engaging activities. You will also cook tasty new recipes and enjoy a meal with the new people you have met.

Each week you get free recipes to take away so you can continue to cook at home, as well as other great resources including a healthy eating plate.

If you are a person with disability, then this cooking program is free for you and your support worker.

Who can participate in the programs?
