Youth Academic Assistance

Funding overview

The City’s Youth Recognition and Reward program offers Youth Academic Assistance to support young people in the City of Cockburn, to attend academic events for which they have been selected based on merit.

Eligibility criteria

To apply, you must be:
  • 21 years of age or younger
  • Studying full-time or part-time at an educational institution recognised by the State or Commonwealth Government
  • A resident of the City of Cockburn.

Funding amount and details

Funds are available for travel assistance to a maximum of $350.

When and how to apply

Applications are open all year-round.

To apply:

  1. Ensure you are eligible to apply and review the conditions and limitations below
  2. Contact the City to discuss your eligibility and application
  3. Submit your application in writing, specifying the event's date and detailing the expenses you will incur as a participant. Also, include proof of your selection or participation, provided by the organising group or an academic representative affiliated with your study.
Important note: Ensure applications are submitted at least two months before the event.

Conditions and limitations

Before apply please ensure you are aware of the following:

  • Funding will not be provided to applicants who are eligible to apply for the Junior Sports Travel Assistance Program.
  • Sponsorship is granted as a single instance of support, without a promise of future funding.
  • Applicants who have previously received funding must have fully accounted for that funding before submitting a new application.
  • Funding cannot be used for personal items, food, catering costs ot student exchange programs.
  • Funding will not be provided for projects or events that:
    • Have already taken place or will occur within two months after the application deadline
    • May divide communities by denigrating, excluding, or offending community group
    • May present a hazard to the community or environment 
    • Relates to political campaigns or lobbying.
