Friday 13 February:
The City of Cockburn will host the Harmony Week School Awards this March. Nominations close on 20 February and celebrate students who help make their schools and communities more welcoming, inclusive and connected.


The Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce’s new leadership team has launched an ambitious program to match what it describes as a southern suburbs growth “hotspot” over the next 50 years – but admits it first needs to rebuild trust.

Shares in Henderson-based shipbuilder Austal have been scuttled in the opening minutes of trade on Friday following reports of an embarrassing accounting blunder that looks set to sink its full-year profit result.

In the spirit of summer picnics and outdoor music concerts, the City of Cockburn is bringing back its annual Cockburn Sun Sets live music event with a high-flying headliner this year.

Fremantle Dockers recruit Mason Cox was raised in Texas, lived in Melbourne for more than 10 years and now resides in Perth. But the naturalised Aussie has quashed any question marks over his state allegiances ahead of Saturday night’s State of Origin clash at Optus Stadium.

Wednesday 11 February:
At the City of Cockburn’s Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 10 February, Council adopted several recommendations, including setting aside $50,000 for detailed design and planning to upgrade the intersection of Powell and Cockburn roads at Coogee Beach.

Plans for a $200 million business park in Henderson will form the retail and hospitality heart of the Australian Marine Complex. Known as the Henderson Business Hub, the plans comprise five buildings with 737 car bays on a 1.85ha site on Quill Way.

Tuesday 10 February:
Police Commissioner Col Blanch has explained his decision to deploy armed patrols in areas with heightened crime or large crowds such as suburban shopping centres, with photos shared on 6PR social media of armed patrolling WA Police officers at Cockburn Gateway Shopping Centre taken last Saturday.


Fremantle midfield star Caleb Serong is a Docker for life after signing a seven-year contract extension to remain at the Club until the end of season 2034.

Saturday 7 February:
Speed limits on more southern suburbs roads may be reduced in a bid to save turtles.

In November 2025, the City of Cockburn welcomed Main Roads WA’s decision to lower the speed limit on Hope Road in Bibra Lake from 70km/h to 60km/h, a long-awaited community win that will improve safety for both people and wildlife.
 
The million-dollar homes club has welcomed some surprising newcomers, including North Lake.
