Cockburn's verge collection service will move to a new zoning system in 2027.
Many households will move to a new zone and their collection dates will be different from previous years.
Rural properties will receive separate bulk waste and green waste collections, instead of a combined collection.
Please check the new zone map and collection schedule below before planning your verge collection.

2026 collection dates
These dates do not apply to 2026.
For this year’s collection dates visit the City’s
standard verge collection page.
Why are these changes happening?
The new zoning system divides the City into smaller collection areas, helping reduce collection timeframes and lessen the impact of delays caused by weather, vehicle breakdowns and other operational issues.
This means waste should remain on verges for less time, helping to keep neighbourhoods tidy and reducing exposure to weather damage.
Rural Zone Changes
Residents in rural areas will see their combined garden and bulk waste collection split into separate garden waste and bulk waste collections.
The rural area zone will change from Zone 11 to Zone 17.
Garden Waste Collection Changes
As part of a 12-month trial in 2027, residential properties will receive one garden waste verge collection per year instead of two.
Bulk waste verge collections will remain unchanged, with two collections annually.
The collection being removed is the least-used of the City's two annual garden waste collections.
Residents have nearly halved their use of the garden waste collections over the last decade. Compared to 2016, the City collected 46% less garden waste in 2025, despite servicing thousands of more households.
Continuing to provide the same level of service despite declining usage comes at a cost.
The 2027 trial will save ratepayers approximately $500,000.
Importantly, residents will continue to have access to a range of year-round waste disposal options. This includes weekly waste and recycling collections, six annual tip passes, Containers for Change, community recycling hubs and a fortnightly 240L garden organics bin service for many properties.
