Friday 19 September:
It’s Djilba which means wildflowers are blooming in our bush reserves.

Cockburn is in the Southwest Botanical Province, an internationally recognised biodiversity hotspot, so you don’t have to go far to witness these annual displays. Check out our website for where to spot these beauties.

Congratulations to local resident Soa Palelei and his business Strong Minds, Strong Mines, and his son Jonah Palelei who are among finalists in three categories of the WA Association for Mental Health WA Mental Health Awards 2025.
The awards have 40 finalists across nine categories and winners will be announced on World Mental Health Day on 10 October.    

Thursday 18 September:
Parking time limits will be lifted at Cockburn Central in a bid to stop vehicles clogging up the streets.


Campaigners against the AUKUS agreement which will bring more nuclear submarines to WA claim it makes Cockburn Sound a nuclear target.

Wednesday 17 September:
Australia's submarine builder, Henderson-based ASC, has announced the appointment of Jim McDowell to its board, where he will serve as deputy chair before taking over as chair at the end of 2025.


Tuesday 16 September:
A neighbourhood dispute has erupted over a backyard that has been turned into a stinking rubbish tip. WAs Housing Minister has ordered an investigation into what fed-up locals in South Lake say is becoming a major problem.

WA's civil construction industry says it's confident it can meet demand stemming from the federal government's $12 billion investment in a defence hub in Henderson, in the midst of housing and skilled worker shortages.

Sunday 14 September:
The Albanese Government will provide $12 billion towards delivering a Defence Precinct at Henderson to deliver continuous naval shipbuilding and AUKUS in Western Australia.

Friday 12 September:
Several schools, businesses and people associated with Cockburn were recognised at the 2025 WasteSorted Awards.

Perth Waldorf School in Bibra Lake won the High School award, Mia Pitassi of Skipping Stones Refillery (which has a zero-waste vending machine at Cockburn ARC) was Highly Commended in the Waste Champion Award, Skipping Stones was also highly commended in the Innovation Award which was won by GO2CUP which supplies reusable flatware, cups and utensils at Cockburn events. GO2CUP was also highly commended in the Closing the Loop Award. Bibra Lake-based Write Solutions won the overall WasteSorted Award.
