Notice of Bush Fire Brigades Local Law 2025

Notice is hereby given that pursuant to the powers under the Bush Fires Act 1954, Local Government Act 1995, and all other powers enabling it, the Council of the City of Cockburn resolved on the 8 July 2025 to make
the City of Cockburn Bush Fire Brigades Local Law 2025.

The purpose of the proposed City of Cockburn Bush Fire Brigades Local Law 2025 is to ensure good governance and the effective management of the City’s Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades.

The effect of the proposed local law is to repeal the City of Cockburn Bush Fire Brigade Local Law 2000, enable the council to establish and maintain volunteer bush fire brigades in accordance with contemporary best practices, and ensure compliance with the Bush Fires Act 1954.

The Bush Fire Brigades Local Law 2025 incorporates operational rules to enhance governance, safety and operational efficiency.

The local law comes into effect on the 14th day after gazettal, that date being 26 September 2025.

A copy of the Local Law may be inspected and obtained below or on the City's Local Laws webpage, or at the City of Cockburn Administration Office and the Spearwood, Coolbellup and Success Public Libraries during office hours.
