About the event

Cockburn Youth Centre and Youth Diversity Inc proudly present our Pride & Progress Ball: Under the Sea.

Dive beneath the waves and join us for a night of colour, connection and unapologetic self-expression at our free and inclusive queer formal for LGBTQIA+ young people aged 15–24.

We invite you into a wonderfully weird underwater world—where glowing jellyfish drift through the deep, nudibranchs bring the rainbow, sea bunnies hide among the coral and mysterious creatures emerge from the darkness.

Will you arrive as a magical mermaid, enchanting siren, legendary Kraken or ruler of a forgotten underwater kingdom? Perhaps you’re a fabulous sunfish, badass anglerfish, elegant sea dragon, daring scuba diver or colourful creature yet to be discovered.

However you choose to make a splash, this is your night to celebrate exactly who you are.

•  Supervised quiet space for when things feel too loud or overwhelming
•  Fabulous Feud—our beloved queer game show
•  Free food and drinks, with dietary options available
•  Tabletop games and art stations
•  Queer artist and community organisation stalls
•  Lip-sync battles and more underwater surprises

How to register

Entry is completely free, but registration is essential so we can plan for everyone’s dietary, accessibility and support needs.

This is a drug and alcohol-free event.

What should I wear?

Think colourful coral reefs, deep-sea darkness, bioluminescent creatures and underwater magic.

A gown, suit, cosplay, costume, casual outfit or favourite everyday clothes are equally welcome. Go all out or keep it low-key. There is no dress code and no pressure, just wear something that feels like you.

Come dressed as a nudibranch, jellyfish, shark, sunfish, sea dragon, mermaid, Kraken, Gyarados- The options are endless like the depths of our ocean.
