The Malabar Park BMX & Community Facility, home to the Cockburn BMX Club is undergoing a $8.9M redevelopment and is currently closed for construction.
Update - June 2025
The $8.9M redevelopment of Malabar Park BMX & Community Facility, home to the Cockburn BMX Club, is now complete and the park is open.
The track is open to the public from 7am – 6pm daily, except when Cockburn BMX Club are operating. Cockburn BMX Club operating times are typically from 4:30pm onwards on Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus their weekend events. Due to safety requirements the track is closed to the general public during these times.
What does the BMX facility include?
- A Union Cyclist Internationale (UCI) BMX racing track that can host large events
- A new 5m start ramp for training and racing Cockburn BMX Club use only, not available to the public.
- New multi-purpose facility that includes areas for Cockburn BMX and Friends of the Community Inc.
- A new space for the wider community that includes a pump track, playground, public toilet and BBQ area
- New car parking.
As part of the City’s commitment to community, the Malabar Park BMX & Community Facility will now serve as the home base for Friends of the Community Inc., a local charity dedicated to reinvesting all proceeds from food sales at events back into the local community.
Funding for the redevelopment includes $8.78M from the City of Cockburn, a $100,000 grant for floodlighting from the State Government, through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF), and a commitment of $20,000 from the Cockburn BMX Club upon completion of the project.
