Enjoy five FREE fun-filled days in Cockburn
There is no need to spend a lot of money when you are out and about in Cockburn. Below we have created suggestions for five fun-filled family days in Cockburn where you don’t have to travel far and where fun is free of charge or next to nicks!
Day one
Start the day at Bibra Lake Regional Playground. The kids will enjoy the flying fox, obstacle course, tree-top rope walk, in-ground trampolines, and other exciting features. Don't forget to bring bathers so the kids can splash in the water play area with spraying bulrushes. Wash it all down with a picnic or barbecue.
Day two
Challenge the family by climbing the 192 steps at
Manning Stairs and lookout, also known as Cockburn's Jacob's Ladder. At the top you will be rewarded with sweeping views across Cockburn Sound and the old South Fremantle Power Station. Walk the
Davilak Trail circuit (referred to as ‘Hamilton Hill’ in the linked booklet) back down to Manning Park. After all that exercise enjoy a picnic or barbecue and a play at the playground, with three sections and fantastic forts for climbing, walking and sliding down.
Day three
If the weather means you need a day indoors, head to one of
Cockburn's libraries (Success, Coolbellup or Spearwood) for some awesome activities and events. There is a range of school holiday activities and programs like Toddler Tales, Pram Jam, STEAM, and LEGO Clubs. Or you can grab a few books and enjoy a cosy read. There are also activities for those aged 10+ such as the popular Gamer club. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch and eat at the library.
Day four
Explore Beeliar Regional Park’s network of walking and cycling trails, abundant with local flora and fauna. The circuit at Bibra Lake is a flat 6km stroll or cycle with plenty to do along the way including a skate park, outdoor gym, a golf driving area, bird hides and playgrounds. Look out for birds like swans, ducks, and herons, and keep an eye out for bandicoots, and other native animals.
Day five
Snorkel
Coogee Maritime Trail just metres offshore and centred around the historic Omeo Shipwreck and its lively marine life.
The trail is suitable for novices and provides access to an artificial reef and underwater art sculptures creating a linear dive trail and habitat for aquatic life around the shipwreck. Underwater educational plaques give information about the Omeo, maritime history and aquatic life in the area.
End the day fishing for dinner at one of the many popular fishing spots, such as the Port Coogee external breakwater, Ammunition Jetty, Catherine Point, or the groynes at Woodman Point.
