Graffiti

Fighting graffiti in our City

The City is active in removing graffiti, which comes at an enormous cost to the community.

Graffiti is a criminal offence and can result in a criminal record, fines and/or penalties.

By reporting graffiti to the police and arranging for rapid removal of the graffiti, you can help us to discourage vandals and reduce graffiti across our City.

The City will remove graffiti in the following instances:

  • Public property (City owned assets): All graffiti will be removed
  • Residential property: Only if the graffiti is visible to the public
  • Commercial property: Only if the graffiti it is racist or obscene.

Important note: For privately owned property, the City will cover costs to a maximum of $400 per incident (based on the average cost of graffiti removal) and $1,200 per property per year. Any costs above this threshold must be covered by the property owner.
