Join the Age-friendly Reference Group

Purpose

Do you want to help make Cockburn an even better place to grow older?
 
We are currently looking for community members to join the Age-friendly Reference Group (AFRG).
 
The AFRG represents older people in our community by providing advice, sharing ideas and raising issues that matter to seniors. The group works collaboratively with the City to support age-friendly initiatives and improve opportunities for older residents.

Who can apply?

We're looking for people who are passionate about supporting older members of our community, including:

  • Cockburn residents who are seniors
  • Carers of older people
  • Advocates for seniors
  • Community and industry representatives (where applicable).

What's involved?

 
Members are expected to:
  • Attend monthly meetings held on the second Thursday of each month (February to November) from 2pm to 3.30pm at the City of Cockburn
  • Represent the interests and views of older people in the community
  • Contribute positively to discussions and decision-making
  • Promote Age-friendly initiatives and support City events where appropriate
Members are also required to read and agree to the Age-friendly Reference Group's Terms of Reference and Code of Conduct as part of the membership process.

Past achievements

  • Seniors parking spaces at Cockburn Gateway Shopping Centre

  • Seating (park benches) within the City

  • Freshly painted parking bays and high pressure cleaning at Phoenix Shopping Centre

  • A new Seniors Directory handbook

  • Provided consultation on City projects

  • Supported the implementation of the City of Cockburn Age-friendly Strategy 2016-2021.

How to join

Membership vacancies may be filled through the Annual General Meeting or when positions become available throughout the year.
