Understanding your rates notice

Your rates notice includes important information about your property charges. Here’s a quick breakdown of what each section means:

1. Property Number
Your property number is a unique ID for your rates account. It helps the City keep track of your rates and payments. Use this number when paying your rates online or if you need to contact the City about your account.
2. Due Date
This is the last day to pay your rates or first instalment without incurring penalties. Make sure to pay on or before this date to avoid interest charges.

3. Payment Reference Number
This is an 11-digit number that you use when paying your rates by BPAY or over the phone. It tells the City which account the payment is for, so it’s important to enter it correctly.
4. Property Details / Description of Land
This section shows the owner’s name, postal address, land description and the property address for which the rates apply. Always check this is correct.

5. Valuation and Rate Details (under Due Date)
5a: Your Valuation Reference Number which is unique and is to be provided to Landgate Valuation Services when making an enquiry on 08 9273 7373.

5b: The Gross Rental Value (GRV) or Unimproved Value (UV) as determined by the Valuer General. This is the basis on which your rates are calculated.

5c: The rate in the dollar used to calculate rates.

6. Description of Charges / Details
This section explains what you’re being charged for. It includes your property’s rate type (like Residential Improved), and other costs such as waste services, the emergency services levy, and pool inspection fees. If any State Government rebates apply to your property, they will also be shown here.
7. Total Amount Due
This is the total amount you need to pay. It includes all charges for the year and any arrears.
