Friday 12 September:
A Bibra Lake business and a local school were recognised at the 2025 WasteSorted Awards.

Bibra Lake business Write Solutions won the WasteSorted Award, and Bibra Lake-based Perth Waldorf School was a joint winner of the Schools Award. The Innovation Award was won by GO2CUP which collaborates with the City at many of our community events.

The Bibra Lake Fun Run scheduled for Sunday 14 September 2025 has been cancelled. 
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a strong wind warning and forecast heavy rainfall for the day and after careful consideration, the City has made the difficult decision to cancel the event in the interest of public safety.

Thursday 11 September:
City of Cockburn Council staff are proudly wearing the colours and designs of local artist and Aboriginal Elder, Neta Knapp, with her artwork now adorning employee uniforms and the Council’s administration building foyer.

Called ‘Footprints on the Waters: Boodja to Kep – healing through spiritual connection’, Aunty Neta’s vibrant artwork was chosen to symbolise how the Cockburn community is embracing reconciliation, increasing equity and listening to First Nations voices.

Jandakot residents who say they are trapped with “unsellable” rural properties because of contaminated groundwater want their land fast-tracked for residential development.

The 2025-26 nesting season for the Southwestern Snake-Necked Turtle (Chelodina oblonga) has begun.
Recent information and training sessions held by the City of Cockburn have doubled the number of volunteer Turtle Trackers to help keep females safe as they leave wetlands and lakes in search of soft soil to lay their eggs.

New female and unisex change rooms, spectator seating, umpire facilities and multipurpose education spaces have been completed at the Cockburn Aquatic and Recreation Centre.

Beeliar Pop/RnB/Hip Hop artist Kalia Atawhai is among four successful musicians announced in the GRID Series' 2025 Outer Perth Edition, supported by a $108,000 investment from the Cook Government.

Defence has accepted the ninth Evolved Cape Class Patrol Boat, ADV Cape Spencer, built at Henderson shipyard by Austal Ships.


Tuesday 9 September:
More girls than ever are picking up the football in Western Australia, with new figures obtained exclusively by The West Australian revealing a surge in participation over the past year.

The Fremantle Dockers last week unveiled new AFLW and community facilities at the club’s Victor George Kailis Oval training base, including purpose-built, female-friendly changerooms.
