Friday 9 January:
An overseas student who was being paid below the minimum wage to sell illegal tobacco became “the one to take the fall” in a police raid on a Cockburn Central shop that netted an “enormous” haul that included more than 66,500 cigarettes.


A rubbish truck fire has caused heavy traffic southbound on Kwinana Freeway in Jandakot. It appears a garbage truck driver was forced to tip rubbish onto the major road after a blaze erupted about 10.20am on Friday.

The Cook Government has funded a boost to social housing in Perth's southern suburbs with a $2.7 million grant to Community Housing Limited, supporting the construction of six new homes in Hamilton Hill.

Thursday 8 January:
Thong throwing and watermelon eating competitions will feature at the annual Australia Day Coogee Beach Festival. The festival will be held from 8am to noon on Monday January 26.

Henderson headquartered contractor Civmec shares spiked on Monday after booking more work on a major port debottlenecking project with BHP.

The contractor disclosed the new contract win, alongside a charging facilities gig with Fortescue, would be worth about $400 million over the current financial year and into 2027.

Western Australia’s largest lime and cement maker has been slapped with new conditions in an attempt to reduce “unreasonable” odours from the Munster plant that have been a source of controversy in surrounding suburbs for years.
