Friday 10 October:
The City’s engineered fringing reef at C.Y. O’Connor Beach has been named a finalist in the 2025 Coastal Awards for Excellence.

Winners will be announced at the 2025 WA Coastal Forum: Communities, Coasts & Change which will be held at Coogee Beach Surf Life Saving Club on 27 October.
The forum program, which also includes a field tour of the Coogee Beach Community Dune Rehabilitation Project, is now open for bookings.

Volunteer firefighter and founder of the fledgling Voice of Cockburn Association, Marcus Burnett, says residents needs are “not being met properly” by the current council.  

Thursday 9 October:
New remote-controlled gates are broadening nature exploration options for people who use mobility aids in Cockburn.

The custom-designed electric gates at Little Rush Lake in Yangebup are intended to help more people enjoy a nature reserve and provide easier access to a neighbourhood shopping area.

The City of Cockburn’s partnership with the Cerge accessibility/inclusion digital tour guide online tools was shared in an ABC Perth radio interview this week.
2024 Young Person of the Year and youth living with differences advocate Ollie Lim shared his lived experience with and presenter Mark Gibson (from 1:34:22).

A growing community interest in native birdlife was evident at Wildlife Weekends held at Cockburn’s libraries during Biodiversity Month 2025.
More than 400 people attended six sessions at the Coolbellup, Success and Spearwood libraries during September, with participants learning about raptors, owls and Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo.

The upgrade of Kwinana Freeway has reached an important milestone with Expressions of Interest now open for industry, with three projects set to benefit the Cockburn community.
The $700m upgrade will target key pinch points including a new lane in each direction between Russell Road and Mortimer Road, a new southbound lane between Roe Highway and Berrigan Drive and a new northbound lane from Russell Road to Beeliar Drive.

Tuesday 7 October:
Atwell College is among three WA secondary schools with new STEM laboratories thanks to $3.7m in State Government funding.

Atwell College now has a new laboratory, 3D printing room and workshop area.

In a WA-first, the State Government will introduce legislation to Parliament to establish a new statutory body that will act as an engine for WA's defence sector. 
Defence West will now evolve into an independent agency that will supercharge WA's defence industries.

Monday 6 October:
Peppa Pig is a special guest at this year’s Teddy Bears Picnic at Manning Park.

The ever-popular free event is part of our Cockburn LIVE event series, and will be held 9.30am-1pm on Wednesday 15 October 2025.

Three-time Doig medallist Caleb Serong has made the extraordinary admission that he feared for his position in the team during the pre-season, saying self-doubt has been one of the biggest driving forces behind his success.

Saturday 4 October:
The Cockburn Bowls and Recreation Centre is about to add another string to its racquet with the opening of padel courts this month.


The City of Cockburn has no plans to make a FOGO bin service available to its residents.

Friday 3 October:
Councils like Cockburn have played a crucial role in helping the ReWild Perth movement, a program run by Perth NRM, take root.
