Off the back of their successful eastern states Starlights Tour, WA’s own Birds Of Tokyo will bring their unique brand of contemporary rock to Success for Cockburn Sun Sets on Saturday 21 February.
The ARIA-award winning band is riding the success of its latest single Starlights, which is helping raise important funds to support the work of WA-based charity the Starlight Children’s Foundation, which grants wishes to kids experiencing serious illness.
The single was released on 28 November 2025, followed by a live YouTube launch with the Starlight Foundation on 1 December, and the release of an official music video on 17 December featuring the artwork of more than 20 children receiving support from Starlight around Australia.
Starlights, which Birds Of Tokyo guitarist Adam Spark said took ‘almost five years to build’, will feature at the free community concert at Success Regional Sporting Facility.
All five band members are now parents to young children which makes the Foundation’s work resonate, and unlike the song, the idea of associating “Starlights” with the charity fell into place immediately.
“There’s something beautifully meta about all this”, Spark said.
“After half a decade of experimentation we ultimately ended up with a song that’s about letting go of your fears and seizing the day so, as things have turned out, we couldn’t have come up with a better soundtrack for the Starlight Foundation if we had tried.”
The band is best known for classic hits Good Lord, Lanterns, Two Of Us, Brace and Unbreakable from its five albums, three of which reached the ARIA top 3 since the release of their 2008 breakthrough album Universes.
They will be ably supported by indie rockers Caravãna Sun, Blues/Folk singer/guitarist Steph Strings, Country/Roots performer Charlie Collins and Minang Noongar vocalist Ricky Neil Jr from 5pm.
City of Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett said the City’s annual free community concert was eternally popular with locals and visitors of all ages and was a highlight of the City’s 2025-26 Cockburn LIVE event season.
“Our City has been providing free community concerts for many years, featuring incredible Australian talent, and 2026 is no exception,” Mayor Howlett said.
“Apart from a host of incredible Australian music, expect a huge range of free family activities throughout the event, where everyone is welcome.”
A Youth Zone features inflatables, giant games, and a sparkle station or purchase a ticket to feel the rush on the Dream Swinger, take a spin on the Storm, float away on the Fiesta Balloon, and laugh your way through the Laughing Clowns!
