Help kick-off our action-packed 2026-27 Cockburn Live event season with an armful of warm fuzzies at the ultimate big doggie day out, the 11th annual Fur Run.
The much-loved dog-friendly Fur Run will be held at Spearwood’s tree-lined Macfaull Park 10am-1pm on Sunday 30 August.
The inclusive event is a paw-fect way to mark the start of the City’s annual Cockburn Live season of free community events by connecting with locals and visitors alike in a vibrant welcoming atmosphere.
The Fur Run is open to the whole community and will again feature the ever-popular ‘fur run’ and pooch parade. The ‘fur run’ is a 1km walk, run, or roll around the park.
The pooch parade awards prizes for a range of p-awesome canine characteristics including best personality and costume, so encourage your pup to get primped and prettied for the occasion.
City of Cockburn Events Coordinator Emma Howe said the Fur Run was a heart-warming way to kick off Cockburn’s beloved event season.
“Last year Cockburn Live attracted 75,000 attendees across a diverse program of events held throughout the City,” Ms Howe said.
“What’s really special is seeing people come together to enjoy memorable experiences with their family and friends, right in their own backyard - with accessible, free and low-cost events making it easy for everyone to come along and be part of it.
“We’re gearing up for a huge events season and can’t wait to welcome back our regulars, along with plenty of new faces, to a seriously good lineup of events.
“From the laughs of Side Splitter Comedy Festival and the magic of Teddy Bears Picnic (now in its 46th year), to Christmas on the Green, Cockburn Sun Sets featuring a big-name headliner, the two-day Coogee Live festival, the month-long Makuru Arts Festival and plenty more along the way — there really is something for everyone.”
Ms Howe said Fur Run was always a great opportunity for the community to connect with local services, organisations and pet-focused businesses, while getting expert advice and discovering products to support their furry friends.
This includes vet checks, a City Ranger Services team, a dog agility course, and lots of family-friendly entertainment such as face painting, bouncy castles, obstacle course, craft activities, a photo booth and caricaturist.
“It’s a one-stop-shop for dog lovers to access the many products, services and resources that support responsible pet ownership, while celebrating the joy and connection that our fur friends bring to our families,” she said.
“We will have a range of food trucks onsite, and the park’s beautiful lawns and shady trees are the perfect spot for a picnic while spending some time among our fun-loving dog community.”
City of Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett said the City’s Events Art and Culture team had been preparing to kick off the 2026-27 event season for several weeks.
“Launching with crowd favourite, Fur Run, this dedicated team has lots of old favourites and some reimagined experiences to deliver between now and next June,” Mayor Howlett said.
“More than 14,800 dogs are registered in the City and a Ranger information desk will provide valuable insights into responsible pet ownership with doggie bags on offer.
“As always, my wife Pat and I will attend as many amazing Cockburn Live events as we can. There’s lots more fun ahead, so stayed tuned as we continue to ensure Cockburn is the best place to be.”
Dog owners should ensure their pets are on-leash while attending Fur Run.
