Sale of Glen Iris Public Golf Course

The City of Cockburn's responses to Cockburn Gazette and The West Australian on 10 & 11 March 2020 respectively, about the sale of Glen Iris Public Golf Course -


The West Australian, 10.3.20 -
Question: Would her (sic) have to have the land rezoned?
Question: What is required for him (sic) to achieve rezoning?
Question: Do the residents have a say in whether it goes ahead?


Answer: The majority of the golf course is zoned Special Use No. 1. The driving range, however, is zoned Residential R40. 
If the new owners are proposing uses that fall outside the current zoning then they would need to make an application to amend the scheme and change the zoning.
This would involve consulting the community on the proposed change.
The scheme amendment process would need the City’s approval as well as the Western Australian Planning Commission and ultimately the Minister’s approval.

Question: Whether the City were the previous owners?

Answer: The City has never owned or been involved in the management/operation of the Glen Iris Public Golf Course.

Question: Or whether it was privately owned?

Answer: The Glen Iris Public Golf Course has always been a privately owned and operated public golf course.
