The Coolbellup School sites redevelopment project covers three former primary schools – Coolbellup, Koorilla and North Lake. The school sites have been redeveloped into mixed-density and vibrant communities. The development project is a partnership between LandCorp and Lendlease.

About the Coolbellup school sites redevelopment

Development partners LandCorp and Lendlease are redeveloping three former school sites in Coolbellup:
  • Coolbellup School Site – bordered by Ebert Street, Hargreaves Road and Hilory Street
  • Koorilla School site – bordered by Cordelia Avenue, Rosalind Way, Benedick Road and Coolbellup Avenue
  • North Lake School Site – bordered by Juliet Road, Capulet Street and Montague Way

Background to the Coolbellup school sites redevelopment

In 2002, the then Minister for Education announced a review of schools in Coolbellup, which led to the closure of three schools (Coolbellup, North Lake and Koorilla Primary Schools) and the construction of a new consolidated school on Len Packham Reserve. Extensive community consultation was undertaken to support the future design of the sites. The original structure plans were advertised for comment, and public submissions were included in the final design. In 2011, the City adopted three local structure plans for the schools. The retention of significant local trees was considered and embedded in the local structure plans.

Aim and context of the Coolbellup school sites redevelopment

These urban infill projects are in line with the State Government's Directions 2031 and Beyond policy which sets out the principles for a future Perth, to sustainably accommodate population growth and economic development. The three structure plans allow for residential development of R30 to R60 density and 24% total public open space. The Coolbellup School Sites Redevelopment will accommodate the needs of a diverse population. An aged care facility will be built at the former Koorilla school site.
