Safe Food Preparation and Delivery for Carers

If you are caring for someone, it is important to ensure their safety by following these food preparation and delivery guidelines:

  • If you are unwell in any way have someone else ready to assist. This means any illness not only symptoms associated with COVID–19.
  • Wash your hands frequently with warm, soapy water or use hand sanitiser.
  • Purchase or obtain food from established food businesses only. Do not provide food items which have been donated from individuals especially back yard eggs.
  • All food to be placed in new plastic bags. Do not use re-useable cloth bags.
  • Only shop for packaged food except fresh fruit and vegetable which should be placed in individual smaller plastic bags.
  • Keep chilled food cold in an insulated bag with ice bricks.
  • Deliver food immediately after shopping. Ensure your car is clean to protect the shopping from contamination. Leave your pet at home.
  • Leave the shopping on the door step or at an agreed secure place. Do not enter the person’s house.
  • Ring the doorbell or text to let them know you have done the delivery.
  • If you do see the occupant in person, maintain the recommended 1.5m social distancing.
  • If you are preparing ready cooked meals for your vulnerable person, please follow food safety requirements.
