About the Sustainability Grants 

The Sustainability Grants Program provides funding for projects in Cockburn relating to six sustainability themes. Small businesses, schools, not-for profits and collective households can apply. Successful applicants can apply for up to $4,000 towards the project. Contact the Sustainability Officer to discuss your application.

What type of sustainability projects are funded?

Sustainability grants are arranged into six themes. Applicants can apply for a range of projects under one of the following themes:

  • Giving Back aims to improve social equity and involvement across the City. Possible projects include volunteering, helping those in need, providing opportunities to participate.
  • Protecting our Future aims to build resilience to climate change and/or safeguarding biodiversity. Possible projects include native or productive food gardens, climate change education,  preservation of natural areas.
  • Strong Communities aims to build community capacity. Possible projects include community development, events and inclusive neighbourhoods.
  • Water, Energy and Waste aims to promote resource use efficiency. Possible projects include  increased recycling, composting, improved water and energy efficiency.
  • TravelSmart aims to support the uptake of alternative transport. Possible projects include end of trip facilities, TravelSmart events, education.
  • Healthy Lifestyles aims to promote opportunities for improved public health outcomes in the community. Possible projects include events, healthy lifestyle programs and education.

Eligibility

  • Collective households (>2)
  • Small businesses (<20 employees)
  • Schools and community groups
  • Not-for-profit organisations.

Applicants must meet and adhere to the following:

  • Be based in the City of Cockburn and/or provide services primarily within the area
  • May only apply for one project each grant year
  • May seek a maximum of $4,000 of funding for the proposed initiative
  • May not seek funding for infrastructure projects such as:
    • Renewable energy systems
    • Rainwater tanks
    • Grey water systems
    • Hot water systems
  • May not seek funding for labour costs
  • Must address at least one of the sustainability grant themes
  • Those applications that demonstrate in-kind and/or financial contribution will be considered favourably.

Funds cannot be sought or used to comply with planning approvals.

How to apply

The Sustainability grants are now open for applications all year around. Assessment of the grants will occur twice a year,  April and November.

The funding is available annually. Applications can be made at the Cockburn Smarty Grants website.

Grant conditions

If your application has been successful, we will send you a Letter of Offer and a Conditions of Funding form to sign which may stipulate various conditions. Once we have received your acceptance you will receive your funding, together with an acquittal form. Once your project is complete, you must return the acquittal form with copies of all receipts and a final project report. Any unused funds must be returned.
