Sponsorship overview

Group Sponsorship is a mutually beneficial arrangement where the City of Cockburn provides financial support for significant events, activities, services, or endeavours, in exchange for public recognition. This partnership not only enhances community value but also serves as an investment in recognition opportunities that promote the long-term interests of both the City of Cockburn and its beneficiaries.

Eligibility criteria

Community groups or organisations based in the City of Cockburn are eligible for Group Sponsorship if they:

  • Serve the City's residents primarily
  • Show a high level of community support
  • Demonstrate financial stability and effective project management.

We welcome applications from community-managed groups, welfare, education, arts/cultural, youth, seniors, children, and related groups.

Sporting teams and clubs are eligible to apply if they:

  • Will represent at a significant national or international event or activity, selected for your achievements in your chosen sport or activity, or
  • Plan to host a sporting event or activity in the City of Cockburn of state, national, or international importance that benefits the community.

Sponsorship amount and details

The maximum sponsorship available to any group or organisation is $20,000. Due to the competitive nature of sponsorship, awards are typically granted in lesser amounts.

The sponsored event or activity must:

  • Benefit the local community and/or the City of Cockburn at large
  • Provide brand exposure and public recognition for the City of Cockburn
  • Enhance awareness and elevate the City of Cockburn's profile, aligning with its desired image
  • Address an identified need without duplicating existing local activities
  • Avoid scheduling conflicts with other events in the City of Cockburn.

Applications highlighting a financial or in-kind contribution to their project or event will receive favourable consideration, as will those securing additional funding sources.

When and how to apply

Applications are accepted annually in March and September.

To apply:

  1. Review eligibility: Review the eligibility criteria, limitations and conditions.
  2. Consultation: Before applying, discuss your proposal with the Community Grants Team to ensure alignment with sponsorship criteria.
  3. Submission: Submit your application using the link below.

Please note:
  • Applications will be assessed and applicants notified of the outcome. within three months.
  • Projects or events should not start within three months of the application closing date.

Limitations and conditions

Before applying please ensure you are aware of the following:

  • Funding will not be provided to private or non-registered organisations.
  • Funding is granted as a single instance of support, without a promise of future funding.
  • Funding will not be provided for projects or events that:
    • Have already taken place or will occur within three months after the application deadline
    • May divide communities by denigrating, excluding, or offending community group
    • May present a hazard to the community or environment 
    • Relates to political campaigns or lobbying.
  • Applicants who have previously received funding must have fully accounted for that funding before submitting a new application.
  • Schools and educational groups must show the project meets a community need, occurs outside of regular school activities and hours, and includes at least a 50% financial or in-kind contribution from their side.
  • Applications requesting over $5,000 must include the most recent audited financial statements.
  • Applicants can receive funding for up to two different projects per financial year from separate funding programs, as long as they are not for the same project.
  • Funding does not cover personal items, such as uniforms, food consumables, or catering costs.
