Friday 17 October:
WA’s Local Government Elections will be held on Saturday 18 October. Cockburn ratepayers can lodge their vote in person at the City of Cockburn Administration Centre, 9 Coleville Crescent, Spearwood between 8am-6pm on that day.

Check election results on the WA Electoral Commission website.

In WA's last local government elections, the average age of candidates was 53 years old.
With council elections taking place across the state on Saturday, candidates Lisa Ma, 18, and Reuben Smalley, 19, want to change that.
Reuben Smalley is a 19-year-old university student, running in the City of Cockburn, who wants to focus on the connectivity of his ward through better bridges and footpaths.

Western Australia has played a central role in a series of international maritime exercises aimed at enhancing the safety of ports throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
The course was staged at HMAS Stirling, Fremantle, Henderson and Jandakot - locations that will become significantly busier as WA gears up for AUKUS.

The Fremantle Underwater Film Festival is set to return for its 10-year anniversary, running from October 31 to November 2 in Hamilton Hill.

Thursday 16 October:
City of Cockburn mayor Logan Howlett has questioned the timing of a proposal from his deputy and election rival Chontelle Stone at the city’s last meeting before elections.


The State Government is taking the next step in securing WA's container trade future, releasing the tender to progress planning for key freight rail upgrades and the removal of the North Lake Road level crossing in South Lake.

At the City of Cockburn’s Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 14 October, Council voted to request the CEO undertake an urgent functionality review of The Siding (Cockburn Central Town Square) - item 17.1.
This will identify low-cost, high-impact improvements to the usability of the space, to implement improvements and bring a report to Council on the outcomes by February 2026. The CEO will also seek Ministerial approval to enable trading activity within The Siding.

Tuesday 14 October:
Award-winning Noongar-Wongi hip-hop performers Flewnt and Inkabee will be the headline act at the City’s 26th annual Cockburn Rotary Spring Fair on 26 October.


The State Government has launched the 'You Can Make It Here' campaign recognising the vital role of fee-free and low-fee TAFE in delivering a skilled workforce and achieving the government's priorities, particularly as it relates to AUKUS.
In the coming years AUKUS will support 10,000 jobs at a new defence manufacturing precinct at Henderson.

Friday 10 October:
The City’s engineered fringing reef at C.Y. O’Connor Beach has been named a finalist in the 2025 Coastal Awards for Excellence.

Winners will be announced at the 2025 WA Coastal Forum: Communities, Coasts & Change which will be held at Coogee Beach Surf Life Saving Club on 27 October.
The forum program, which also includes a Field tour of the Coogee Beach Community Dune Rehabilitation Project, is now live for bookings.
