Having earned the love of international audiences from Edinburgh all the way to regional WA, BRUCE is coming to Cockburn for one night only.
If the adventures of a loveable screw-up are something you can relate to, a simple but enigmatic yellow foam sponge called BRUCE has a rollicking tale to share with audiences aged 17 and over on 12 April.
The creation of Nickelodeons’ Wyatt Nixon-Lloyd and multi-Helpmann Award nominated artist Tim Watts, BRUCE, a self-proclaimed hero-cop turned novelist astronaut, is brought to life by skilled puppeteers.
In an opportunity to suspend reality, two skilled performers use physical theatre and humour to tell a fast-paced tale that spells almost disaster, with a heart-warming twist.
City of Cockburn Creative Programs Lead Sam Longley, himself a seasoned and celebrated actor and writer, said audiences should be prepared to be mind-blown.
“Audiences will find themselves effortlessly engaging their imagination in a lo-fi way that is a refreshing departure from today’s overabundance of CGI and AI – an authentic display of real human scriptwriting and theatre skill,” Longley said.
“It’s truly astounding and I know Cockburn’s daring but discerning comedy-lovers will lap up this opportunity.”
Mayor Logan Howlett said the unique offering was another way to satisfy the creative thirst that resided among Cockburn’s diverse population.
“Cockburn has always had a creative side and a love of all art,” Mayor Howlett said.
“That’s why we’re bringing the community a range of cultural experiences. I appeal to all those that love a good story and good laugh to invest some time in BRUCE.”
See BRUCE for one night only at Memorial Hall, Hamilton Hill, 7-8pm on Friday 12 April.
Tickets are $15 each and are selling fast. Find out more on the City’s
website.
The brainchild of Perth-based production company The Last Great Hunt, its creator, writer and actor Watts, also created international smash hit The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer which has travelled the world for the past decade.
