Boat fire at Port Coogee Marina

The City of Cockburn's 15.8.23 response to PerthNow about a boat fire at Port Coogee Marina

Question: Has the cause of the Port Coogee vessel and jet ski fire been determined?
Answer:
The City’s CoSafe service was alerted to the fire when a duress alarm was activated by a member of the public. CoSafe confirmed the fire through CCTV and contacted Fire and Emergency Services.

The fire started aboard the vessel, but the cause has not yet been determined. The incident is now under investigation with the boat owner’s insurance assessors to determine the exact cause of ignition.

Question: What damage has this caused to the owner?
Answer:
Unfortunately, it is likely that the boat will be written off. However, the overall damage is yet to be determined by insurance accessors.

Question: Has damaged impacted surrounding vessels or property?
Answer:
Importantly no one was hurt. Other vessels in the immediate area were moved to limit the fire spreading. Prevailing winds assisted in keeping the blaze away from nearby residential properties. The concrete jetty between the boat and jet ski sustained heat damage from the fire, however all other jetty infrastructure and services remains intact.

The City would like to thank the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, WA Police and Department of Transport for their assistance in this matter.
