Waterwise Gardening for Birds

About the event

Discover practical ways to transform your garden into a welcoming space for native birds. Whether you have a large yard, small courtyard or balcony, you can support local wildlife by creating habitat, choosing suitable plants and understanding how birds use suburban gardens as part of the wider ecosystem. 

We will cover: 

• How gardens connect to the wider ecosystem 

• Local endemic bird species 

• Understanding birds’ needs and behaviours 

• Considering bird size and adaptations when designing your garden 

• Plant species that support nesting and shelter 

• Feeding habits of native birds 

• Plant species that support natural food cycles 

• How to protect birds from common threats. 

By increasing plant diversity and creating nature corridors, you can make a meaningful contribution to local bird conservation and help your neighbourhood’s birdlife thrive. 

Hannah from Budding Concepts will share her knowledge of native plants and practical verge design ideas. 
City of Cockburn residents will receive a native seedling to take home and get their garden started.
