Priceless art donated to four Cockburn primary schools

21MARCH2019
Four local primary schools will resemble an art gallery following a City of Cockburn donation of bespoke ocean-themed murals.

The bright murals were designed by well-known local artist Mel McVee and completed by countless families and children who attended the successful Coogee Live beachside festival last weekend.

Valued at $15,000, 16 marine grade ply mural boards will be shared between Coogee, South Coogee, Southwell and Spearwood primary schools, with another two reserved for inclusion at a new park being developed in the City this year.

The mural was completed as part of a community street activation project sponsored by the City and Fremantle Ports at the annual art, music and culture festival at Coogee Beach.

Mel said hundreds of people helped complete the murals which feature local sea life including pelicans, seahorse, turtles, fish, shark and jelly fish.

The boards and art materials are weather and UV resistant and treated with an anti-graffiti coating, to give the priceless artworks longevity in their new homes.
