Nyungar Boodjar (Country)

Boodjar means Country – and for Nyungar people, it is more than land. It includes the sea, sky, animals, plants, stories, and the spirit of place.

Nyungar means “person” or “people.” As the Nyungar language was not written prior to colonisation, you may see many different spellings of this and other Nyungar words.

Nyungar people have cared for this Country for over 40,000 years. It is both a right and a responsibility, passed through generations.

This section shares how the Whadjuk Nyungar people understand and care for boodjar, from creation to today. Here you can explore information and stories about land, sea, seasons, language, cultural knowledge and the places that carry memory.
