WA Tree Recovery Program funding

The City's response to PerthNow about WA Tree Recovery Program funding, 4.6.25

Question: Will the city apply for the first WA Tree Recovery Program funding round?
Answer:
As the City has only removed five PSHB-affected trees to date, the City’s current tree planting program has been able to mitigate the associated canopy loss so will not apply for round one funding.

Question: How much money will the city be seeking?
Answer:
Using current estimates, the City may apply to next year’s funding round for approximately $60,000 to account for the predicted removal of more than 60 trees in Bibra Lake and Yangebup where tree canopy is still being assessed.

Question: How many trees has the city lost because of the Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer?
Answer:
The City has only removed five affected trees to date.

Question: How (did) you landed on the $60,000 funding estimate for the loss of 60 trees?
Answer:
Local governments may have different requests, which makes it difficult to compare between projects from a dollar value perspective.

Costs may vary depending on the terms agreed to by different local governments through contractual agreements, and the grants allow for different options for replacement.

For example, a local government could request funding for 3 x 30-litre replacement trees for every one tree removed, or they may request funding for smaller sized trees and undergrowth shrubs to replace removed trees.

The City of Cockburn has estimated the cost of replacing trees on the cost of supply, installation and watering for 30-litre sized trees over three years.
