Port Coogee residents concerned about out of control youth

The City of Cockburn's response to 6PR about Port Coogee residents concerned about out of control youth

Question: We spoke to a Port Coogee resident this morning who has serious concerns about out of control youth targeting the area. Looking at the local community fb page his concerns seem to be widespread amongst the greater community and they have alluded to their concerns falling on deaf ears with police and also the council. We are just hoping for a response to what the council is doing to address the concerns.

Answer:
These are the actions the City has taken in response to concerns at Port Coogee.
  • The Safer Cities team has been liaising with the Port Coogee Community Association. Partnering with Frasers Property, the City will host a community safety talk on Saturday, 4 February. WA Police, CoSafe, Neighbourhood Watch and our officers will be present to speak with Port Coogee residents about their concerns
  • CoSafe, the City’s safety and security service, is aware of community concerns and is actively monitoring the area. During summer, it is standard practice for CoSafe to increase patrols in the area, however, more focus will be devoted to the specific area of concern
  • CoSafe will engage with Woolworths Shopping Centre security in the coming days, to see if there are any avenues to share information and work collaboratively
  • The City has been engaging with WA Police on this issue and contacted the Public Transport Authority to request they increase security patrols of buses entering Port Coogee
  • The City’s Youth Services have been engaged to assess the viability of any possible short-term projects that can be implemented.
