City trials tech support for seniors via Youngster.Co

The City of Cockburn's response to the Fremantle Herald on 18 & 22 March 2022 about its trial of tech support for seniors via Youngster.Co

Question: Is the City of Cockburn likely to continue the program?

Answer: The City is currently awaiting the outcome of a funding application to enable us to continue to deliver Youngster.Co. If successful, we will be excited to continue to offer this service to the community.

Question: Is the funding application is in relation to a state government grant?
Answer:
That’s correct – the funding application is in relation to a State Government grant (specifically from the State Library of Western Australia SLWA and the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries DLGSC).

Question: What are the most common things seniors need help with?
Answer:
Accessing ServiceWA, MyGov, Medicare and ensuring that Covid information is linked and displaying appropriately.

Question: How did the City find out about this initiative?
Answer:
The City was aware of the success of Youngster.Co through other local governments implementing the program.

Question: Does the City have a message to young people and seniors who haven't participated in the program?
Answer:
The City is committed to ensuring our seniors stay digitally connected and we welcome any seniors, no matter their skill level to come and try a session with our patient and kind young people who are ready to assist.

Question: Does Cockburn have potential additions to the program/ways to enhance it?
Answer:
The program can go online if necessary, however the preferred method is in person due to obvious technological barriers. Phone assistance can be explored also.

Question: What similar plans might the City have?
Answer:
The City continues to offer tech help sessions, through our libraries and the Seniors Centre and we will continue to listen and learn from our community and respond to their needs.
