Cancellation of Coogee Live 2022 two-day festival

The City of Cockburn's response to PerthNow Cockburn on 31 January 2022, about the cancellation of the Coogee Live 2022 two-day festival

Question: How much did it cost the City to run the festival?
Answer:
The festival has a $240,000 full running budget.

Question: How much money has been lost as a result of the cancellation?
Answer:
The City has incurred a loss of approximately $120,000. Considering the evolving COVID-19 situation, the City believes that cancelling was the common-sense decision to prevent further potential losses and to protect and support festival stakeholders, partners and local businesses. We will seek to mitigate the losses through the amended future smaller replacement events.

Question: What type of online events will be held over that weekend instead?
Answer:
The City is still working on the finer details. At this stage, the replacement events are planned to be mostly online and will run throughout the year.
The City’s Cockburn Community Concert (19 Feb) will continue as planned, unless circumstances change.

Question: Will the City refund any fees that were paid by small businesses such as food trucks and entertainers?
Answer:
Yes, the city will work with all stakeholders and vendors.

Question: Will the City look to rescheduled the festival or just work on plans for next year?
Answer:
The City is looking to replace the festival with a series of small, safe and fun online celebrations. The City looks forward to presenting Coogee Live again in 2023.

Question: Anything else you’d like to add?
Answer:
While COVID-19 continues to raise challenges, the City is committed to providing our community with a range of diverse and engaging events. We will continue to liaise with relevant State departments to ensure our event schedule is as safe and responsible as possible.
