About the event
As part of the WA Tree Festival, Cockburn Libraries welcomes the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre for a special children’s presentation featuring a live black cockatoo.
Kaarakin’s educators will share:
- Why black cockatoos rely on local trees
- What they eat, where they nest and how far they travel
- How everyone can help by protecting existing trees, planting native species and caring for the green spaces these threatened birds depend on.
This rare encounter is an opportunity to meet one of WA’s iconic cockatoos up close while learning practical ways to keep them safe.
Registrations are essential. Adult supervision is required.
After the talk, there will be a short meet‑and‑greet. If you miss out on registering for the session, you are welcome to drop in and say hello in an informal setting.
About the WA Tree Festival
Trees are essential to our communities. They provide shelter, food and habitats for countless species, help cool our environment and improve our wellbeing. The WA Tree Festival brings together local governments and community groups across Western Australia to celebrate the vital role trees play in supporting nature and enhancing our neighbourhoods.
In the lead‑up to and throughout the festival, we are hosting events and initiatives focused on greening Cockburn and protecting local wildlife.
The WA Tree Festival runs from 11 April to 10 May across Western Australia.
