When you’re young, getting started in a job is hard and it’s particularly difficult when you don’t have any experience or contacts. Getting a job can be like a double-edged sword: you need experience to get a job but without a job you can’t get any experience.
To help young people (16 – 24 years) get their foot in the door, the City of Cockburn has started building relationships with local businesses to provide training and work experience opportunities. This means professional training, experience, skill development, references and a good looking resume.
WA Youth Week (formerly National Youth Week) is an annual celebration of the positive contributions of young people to Western Australia and this year the City will be holding an event on Saturday 21 April to celebrate young people in Cockburn. To make this happen we are looking for a team of young people who will design, organise and deliver the event. Team members need to be 16 – 24 years old, live in the City of Cockburn and have an interest and/or experience in organising events. If you are looking for event management work experience then this is a great opportunity to build your skill set and make your resume look even better.
To be part of the 2018 WA Youth Week event team please complete the online application form by Wednesday 7 February. Successful applicants are expected to attend all meetings and be there on the day of the event. The first meeting will be held on Tuesday 13 February, 5.30pm – 6.30pm.
