About the event

Local business Leaf Bean Machine (LBM) and Cockburn Youth Services have partnered to increase some amazing youth employment opportunities to Cockburn young people aged 15-18 years.

LBM's barisa training course is specially designed for young people and focuses on the skills required to make great coffee either at home or in a hospitality environment.
 
Participants will learn:

  • How to operate a coffee machine (barista technique)

  • Espresso recipes and the factors that affect espresso flavour

  • How, why and when to adjust a coffee grinder

  • The defining characteristics of each drink on the cafe menu

  • How to thoroughly clean the espresso machine and grinder

 
Where is the barista training held?
The class will be held at the Karvan Coffee roastery at 1/12 Horus Bend in Bibra Lake.
Participants must find their own means of transport.
 
How long does the course run for?
The class will be approximately 4 hours in duration. It will occur on Wednesday, 14 July, 9AM to 1PM.
Participants are requested to arrive 10 minutes before.
 
What is the cost?
This course is FREE to 10 young people aged 15 to 18 years who live, study, work or volunteer in Cockburn.
 
What resources are provided during the barista course?
Each student will receive a copy of LBM's Barista Training manual. Written by their own barista trainers, this training booklet covers coffee preparation, machine and grinder use as well as a handy troubleshooting guide.
 
How do I sign up?

Applications have closed due to overwhelming response.


All candidates will be contacted and provided an outcome to their application.
