The Cockburn Operations Centre & Animal Management Facility has been built by the City of Cockburn and includes a depot and new animal facility. The facility is located in Wellard Street, Bibra Lake.

The animal management facility

The sound proofed and climate controlled animal facility accepts all types of animals, with the ability to cater for up to 30 dogs at any one time in a secure and comfortable environment.

The animal facility contains the following:
  • Three small dog exercise areas
  • A separate area for cats
  • An isolation area for diseased cats
  • Sally port to accept all types of animals
  • Three livestock areas for horses, sheep, goats and pigs
  • CCTV 24/7
  • Purpose built office area with after hours accessibility
  • EFTPOS.
Animals can be processed and released outside of normal operating hours, with access via the northern carpark area. Appointments must be made in advance of animal collections (fees apply).

Sustainability features

  • Solar hot water system
  • 30 kVa photovoltaic system
  • LED lighting
  • Shading to lower floor north and west facing windows
  • Airlock to the front entry foyer
  • Air conditioning uses more energy efficient gas heated hot water for heating as compared to electric resistance heating.

What happens to unclaimed animals?

  • Dogs - kept for a maximum of seven days before they are sent to a rescue group to be re-homed
  • Cats - if not claimed within 48 hours they are sent to the Cat Haven
  • Livestock - sent to various rescue parties after 60 days.
