In 2012 as part of the overall Banjup Quarry Structure Plan (Calleya Estate), the need for a multi-purpose community and sporting facility was identified. This need has been re-affirmed through more recent consultation and is identified the City’s draft 15 year Community, Sport, and Recreation Facilities Plan. There is $4.55M allocated for the design and construction of the new facility.
The facility will be based in the main town centre, on the corner of Torwood Avenue and Clementine Boulevard, Treeby. It is intended that the new facility will be a flexible community space that will serve a variety of different purposes for the community. It is expected that the new facility will include:
- Multi-functional community activity spaces
- Multi-purpose sporting clubrooms (overlooking the adjacent park)
- Food and beverage preparation and service areas
- Playground area suitable for young children
- Change rooms
- Car parking.
The City will undertake a number of activities within 2018/19 financial year including wider community and stakeholder consultation, development of a concept design, and detailed designs to inform construction scheduled for years 2019/20 and 2020/21.
The City will work closely with the primary developer, Stockland to ensure the overarching development principles of Calleya Estate are achieved. These include sustainability, transit orientated design, streetscape legibility and place making, while also achieving the vision of creating a distinct and thriving community that is ‘bold, edgy and genuine’.
$400k has been allocated in the 2018/19 Financial year for the development of a concept plan, detailed design and tender documentation. A total of $4.55M has been allocated to the project, with an estimated $3.2M being sourced from collections under the Development Contribution Scheme.
