Cockburn sporting clubs can apply for a one-off grant for financial support to cover urgent expenses in the wake of COVID-19.
The grants are available to sporting clubs that are based or operate within the City of Cockburn, and are affected by cancellation or suspension of sport due to the pandemic.
The closing date for applications is 29 May, 2020 with payments to nominated club bank accounts within 30 days of receiving an invoice for the funding amount. The City’s Recreation Services team will endeavour to advise clubs of the outcome of their application by 5pm on 5 June.
All sporting clubs that meet the eligibility criteria may apply for up to $750 (ex GST) and clubs on a lease agreement with the City are eligible for up to $2,000 (ex GST).
City of Cockburn Recreation and Community Safety Manager Travis Moore said the grants were part of Stage One of the City’s Sporting Clubs COVID Support Package.
“Because the grants are specifically designed to help clubs with urgent expenses, all funds must be spent within one month of the approval date,” Mr Moore said.
“Considerations could include annual turnover, current liquidity of assets, and demonstrated financial impact/loss.
“Given the Covid-19 situation is shifting, the City will consider further relief for sporting organisations experiencing financial hardship.
“This will be dependent upon (but not limited to) available funds, other available grants/relief packages within the industry and the overall impact on the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Eligibility criteria includes:
- Clubs must be incorporated and not for profit
- Clubs can demonstrate financial loss of 20 per cent or more year to date (YTD) as of 30 April 2020 due to sport being postponed or cancelled due to COVID-19 and subsequent social distancing measures required to implemented by the community, and
- Be in urgent and genuine need of financial assistance.
