Economic Development

The City of Cockburn is an economic powerhouse and takes a strategic approach to development. There are a number of advocacy groups for business including the Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce and the South West Group.

Steering economic development

The City of Cockburn enjoys strong economic growth. Its gross regional product is approximately 2.6% of the State’s overall revenue. The City’s strong economic performance is the result of 25 years of rapid greenfield residential and industrial development which is now slowing down. The City’s future growth will be shaped by infill and revitalisation projects. In recognition of this, the City has developed an Economic Development Directions Strategy, which will support this transition and the City’s growth into the future.

The Strategy takes an integrated approach to planning for the future economy of the Cockburn region. This document is a tool for the City’s economic development and includes an outline of the City's current status and a plan to reach future goals.

Economic Development Directions Strategy

The Economic Development Directions Strategy has been developed to support Cockburn’s growth as it transitions away from greenfield development, towards a focus on infill and revitalisation. The Strategy identifies the key elements influencing Cockburn’s economy and outlines why the City needs to be strategic about economic development for the future. The strategy is a tool that identifies a path for the City to take and to guide its future prosperity.
