Parks & Gardens

Council's Parks Services maintain and develop 20 parks throughout the City to provide community facilities for both active and passive use. Many of the parks include play equipment for different age groups, half court basketball areas or sporting facilities.

Each year funds are allocated on the budget for works to improve parks within the area.

Your cooperation in reporting vandalism, graffiti, damage to trees, play equipment or reticulation would be appreciated.

Public Notice: Lead levels in playground equipment

A report released as part of the Esperance Cleanup and Recovery program in late February raised concerns about lead levels in some of the towns playground equipment.

Media reports suggested other playgrounds across the State could also be hazardous, especially where equipment is more than 10 years old.

The Department of Health (DOH) believes the risk to public health is generally low, however following advice from DOH residents can be assured the City has taken the necessary steps to ensure its playground equipment is safe.

These include:

  • Contacted manufacturers and suppliers of playground equipment to determine the age and materials used in the equipment;
  • Regularly updates the inventory of assets;
  • Characterised the risk in terms of age and condition of equipment; and
  • Updated the Citys playground equipment asset evaluation checklist to include assessment of the condition of the surfaces of playground equipment.
