Leading the way in 2007, the Regional Seniors Group Representatives

Background

The Regional Seniors Group (RSG) was established in 2005 under the banner of the Cockburn Community Development Strategy. The Group consists of members representing the various Seniors Clubs within the Cockburn area.

The members volunteer their time to organise a variety of annual events, workshops and activities for the benefit of seniors living in Cockburn.  They meet once a month to network, exchange information and discuss any relevant issues arising.  The RSG reports back bi-monthly to the Regional Community Development Group.

Aims

The group's purpose is dedicated to enhancing the lives of older people living in Cockburn.  The RSG encourage's the principles of Active Aging to optimise opportunities for health, participation and security in order to enhance quality of life as people age (World Health Organisation, 2002).

Membership

The requirement to be part of the RSG is as follows. Application to join the Group can be made through the City of Cockburn and the Regional Senior Group will determine acceptance.

Criteria for membership:

A community based, non profit organisation within the City of Cockburn that fits into the RSG definition of a Seniors Club *


* Note : The RSG defines a Seniors Club as a group that:

  1. Consists of community members over the age of 50; and
  2. Promotes and supports the wellbeing of seniors by enhancing their lives; and
  3. Encourages social inclusion amongst seniors through various annual events, workshops and activities
  4. The inclusion of any new Seniors Club will be voted on at an RSG meeting.
