 Disability Reference Group

The City has shown its commitment in consulting with people with disabilities, their families and carers by facilitating the Cockburn Disability Reference Group.

The Disability Reference Group has a dedicated core group of people that meet every first Tuesday of the month at the City of Cockburn administration building.

Other interested community members representing disability issues may attend the meeting provided that the Disability Access and Inclusion Officer is informed before the meeting date.

Purpose:
To enhance opportunities for people with a disability and their representatives to exchange information and communicate their concerns on access and inclusion issues within the City of Cockburn.

Objectives:

  • To provide information to the City of Cockburn and the community on issues relating to people with a disability.
  • To give recommendations to the City of Cockburn that will benefit people with disabilities.
  • To improve universal access and inclusion for people with special needs in the City of Cockburn. 
  • To review the City of Cockburn Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2007 - 2012 (DAIP).

Membership:
This proactive Group is made up of consumers, industry representatives, Councillors and City of Cockburn representatives. The Group has an open membership for people who meet the following criteria:

  • Residents of Cockburn who has a disability and/or a parent, carer, advocate of a person with a disability.
  • People who work in the disability field in a voluntary or paid capacity within the City of Cockburn
